FAQs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How big is the Hall?

The Main Hall is  7.6m x  15.9m [25ft x 52ft] and the Robert Piper Room is  7m x 6.4m [23ft x 21ft]. The Main Hall also has a small stage

How many can the Hall accommodate?

Difficult to say but the Main Hall is generally ok for children’s parties 25 – 30 children. For performances, film shows, meetings where seating is in rows, the Main Hall can take about 100 people. For social events, craft making sessions, etc., where there are tables, probably no more than 60. The Robert Piper Room is suitable for small meetings, dance classes, exercise groups 15 – 20 people. To get a better idea of the size it is worth looking at the Pictures on this website, see Menu bar above

Is it suitable for children’s parties?

The Main Hall is very popular for young children’s parties and the feedback from parents/carers is always very positive. It will accommodate a fairly large bouncy castle and we have brightly coloured chairs and tables suitable for young children.

How much does it cost?

We charge per session rather than an hourly rate. The charge for hiring the Main Hall and Kitchen for a children’s party or any other function is £45 per session.  For the smaller Robert  Piper Room the charge is £35 per session. There is a reduced rate for local charitable groups. Sessions are from 8am to 1pm and 1pm to 6pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and during school holidays. During the week in school term time, the Main Hall and the Robert Piper Room are used by Southwater Village Hall Pre-School during the day and so are not available for hire. The Main Hall and the Robert Piper are currently fully booked on weekday evenings.

When is the Hall available?

If you check the Calendar [on Menu bar above] you can see when the Main Hall and the Robert Piper Room are free?  It is a good idea to do this before you complete the contact form.

Can I book the Hall for an adult’s party

The Hall is not staffed and because of past difficulties we took the decision not hire out the Hall for adult parties or for young people aged 13 and above

Are there chairs and tables?

There are 30 chairs and tables for young children. For adults there are 100 chairs and tables. We have additional tables for sales, shows and exhibitions.

What about using the Kitchen?

The kitchen is available for anyone who books the Main Hall and there is no extra charge for this. There is a domestic gas oven and hob. You will need to bring your own saucepans, baking trays and cooking utensils. You will also need to bring your own tea towels and washing up liquid. We do provide plates, cup and saucers. There is also a fridge in the room adjoining the kitchen but it has no freezer compartment.

What about cleaning afterwards?

We ask you to leave the Hall clean and tidy as hopefully you found it. There are brushes and brooms in the cupboard in the Green Room, the room next to the kitchen
